Yes, they have a lot of teeth they all-too-readily bare. And yes, they have those tails and those beady eyes and that rat-like body shape. But they are gentle, too, if not provoked. That's not to mention opossums are resistant to nearly all diseases. They rarely contract rabies, don't get distemper and are virtually immune to poisonous snake bites. They are probably the most beneficial of the native wildlife cleaning up dead things and rotten fruit. Possums eat rats, roaches, snails, slugs as well as any kind of bug or garbage that they find. Treat them well, we need these Yard Angels.
